FAQ

What do I need to do to have a Cord Art piece made?

When you order your art we’ll send a collection kit. Take it to the hospital / birthing place when you’re having the baby and give it to your nurse or midwife BEFORE your baby is born.

After your baby arrives, the nurse/ midwife will cut a 2-3 centimeter (1 to 1 ½ inch) portion of the cord and place it in the jar containing preservative solution that’s included in the kit. We even provide the appropriate scalpel so the nurse has it handy and can make a clean cut. We include instructions too. You’ll put the jar in the sealed-top bag and send it back to us using the box and envelope we provide (postage paid).

How long will it take to receive my art?

After we receive the collection kit with your baby’s cord specimen, we estimate that your art will be complete within 4-6 weeks. Creating each piece is a labor-intensive process and we want to get it just right for you.

How do you create Little Cord Art?

It requires a process that’s both scientific and artistic. Read more about how we create your art.

What do you do with the umbilical cord after making the art?

We will use most of the sample you send us to create the slides that will become your art. After your canvas is printed we’ll send the slides to you. These slides contain a preserved physical portion of the umbilical cord and are a unique keepsake to complement your artistic piece.

How can I ensure that the art was made from my child’s cord exclusively?

We take great measures to assure the authenticity and exclusivity of your art. We process your baby’s cord in a licensed lab facility using the latest clinical pathology equipment and techniques. Trained and certified technicians and physicians handle each cord specimen from start to finish. Learn more about our guarantee.

What if I place an order but am unable to collect a cord sample?

It’s OK, things happen. That’s why we have a cancellation policy.

My child is XX years old but I still have his/her umbilical cord. Can you use it to make Little Cord Art?

As long as you have had the tissue in a preservative solution (formalin, formaldehyde) since birth, and the specimen is at least 2-3 centimeters long, we should be able to create art for you. But that said, we have also created art from cord samples that were frozen. Contact us with more details to be sure.

Who designed your website and logo, and took your photographs?

We work with a talented and really cool group of creative women! Our website was designed and developed by DOT Simple. A Girl Named Fred created our brand and visual identity. And the photography on our site is by Jackelin Slack Productions.

Do you ship outside of the U.S.?

We'd love to! Contact us for a shipping quote, since unfortunately we'll likely have to charge an extra fee to ship your cord sample.
